The Best Moisturizers for Combination Skin

Written by Beatrice Walker / August 8, 2021

Finding a good moisturizer for combination skin can be extremely difficult, and I say this from personal experience. Ever since I was 13 years old, I struggled with managing my combination, oily, sometimes dry, acne prone skin. Finding a moisturizer that isn’t too thick that it will clog pores, but also strong enough to target dry patchy areas, while also being light enough not to cause excess oil, was a real challenge. Thankfully after much trial and error, and more recently being introduced to clean beauty products, I now have a solid list of go to moisturizers that address and repair my multiple skin issues.

Your skin is an investment, and it is 100% worth it to buy quality products. When I was younger I wasted way too much money on cheap, drug store products that had harsh chemicals, and caused my skin to break out even more. I am an incredibly frugal person, and like to pinch pennies where I can, EXCEPT for skin care or really any beauty products, but I also need to be realistic, so I love finding affordable, quality, skin care products that actually work. Read on below for a list of my favorite moisturizers that will help you achieve healthy glowing skin.

1. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

This has become a staple in my skin scare routine because of how consistently well my skin reacts to it. I like to try new products often and I know that no matter what I can always come back to this moisturizer. It absorbs quickly into the skin, is super light weight, and non-greasy. It’s also very affordable which is why I’m able to continue purchasing it so often.

2. Beautycounter Antioxidant Soft Cream

This velvety smooth moisturizer from Beautycounter contains a plant based retinol which is supposed to be less harmful than other chemical retinol based products. It’s marketed as an anti-aging cream, but it’s really fine for all ages. I found it to be a very hydrating, balancing moisturizer perfect for everyday use. It is a bit of a splurge, but you only need about a pump and a half, so a little goes along way, and it will last for quite some time.

3. Caudalie Vinosource-Hydra S.O.S. Moisturizing Cream

This silky smooth moisturizer is incredibly hydrating, and smells fantastic. At first touch, its thicker texture had me a little worried that it would be too heavy, but that thought quickly dissipated as I massaged it into my skin and felt it melt away, and completely absorb. It also happens to be pretty affordable, making it a product I can swap in and out of my sink care routine easily. It gets bonus points for being clean / vegan!

4. Bioelements Absolute Moisture

This is another clean beauty product I love that was recommended to me by my esthetician years ago when I got my first facial. It was one of the first spa grade skin care brands I ever purchased, and one of the first brands I committed to using regularly because it didn’t cause me to break out. The combination of jojoba and avocado oil gives your skin a boost of hydration while feeling light and smooth.

5. Belif True Cream Aqua Bomb

True belif aqua bomb is a light weight gel cream that can be used AM + PM. This creamy lotion has a combination of ceramides and glycerin that keeps skin hydrated and smooth without feeing greasy. This is a newer product for me that I have recently (over the past two years) started rotating into my skin care routine and it will definitely be staying.

6. Korres Pomegranate Pore Blurring Gel Moisturizer

Another newer product for me, this cream gel moisturizer contains pomegranate enzymes and hyaluronic acid which helps to balance oil production and give you smooth glowy skin. It’s lightly scented and is also plant based and cruelty free.
